![]() Because we liked the all-too-short-lived TV series "Firefly" and the subsequent movie, and because she's a Firefl(ite), we've named the new boat "Serenity."
Pictures from the Inagural RunThis was the first shakedown with the 40-horse motor. (Previously I had done a float test with a 3-hp kicker because the 40 wouldn't run reliably.) On 04/13/08, my Dad and I took Serenity out to Henry Hagg Lake and opened her up!
With the two of us in the boat we achived a top speed of 22 statute MPH according to the GPS. That's plenty fast for me. There was a bit of pounding at that speed -- I don't know if it's normal or means I need to adjust the trim on the motor. I also need to fiddle with the idle adjustment to keep the 40 from loading up at low idle, and with the shift cable adjustment to see whether it's simply not going into reverse gear completely or whether the shift dog is just too worn to keep it in gear.
