Project #2: The Lawn

DAY 1

The only thing I can think is that when Dimmer found out that he had a firm offer for the house, he figured that he didn't need to maintain anything any more. This is the back lawn. I estimate that it hadn't been mowed for about a month. The object barely visible in the middle distance is a Craftsman 22" 3.5-hp side-discharge mower.

As an aside, during this project I decided that there is a fundamental difference between "cutting the grass" as they say back East (Dimmer sounds like he's from New Joisey), and "mowing the lawn" as we say in the West: Cutting the grass is something you do with lawn clippers; mowing the lawn requires heavy equipment as in "I'm heading out to mow the alfalfa on the south forty now."

DAY 2

This is the mower choked out on wet grass. This happened a lot... .

DAY 3

Done! The Craftsman triumphs!

Thank goodness for Briggs & Stratton power. There's just something satisfying about mowing the lawn: It's destructive and constructive at the same time.
