A friend who was unable to be present offered this toast via E-mail:
When one thinks of Steve Scannell getting married, one might think of the words of the late Kaiser Wilhelm who said, "Give me a woman who loves beer and I will conquer the world." As much as I like Steve, I'm not real sure I want him ruling the world -- beer or not. So, rather than debating what Steve's marriage to Heather means for the future of mankind, I will give them these two little tidbits of advice:
  • First, in the course of your marriage remember the Chinese proverb that says, "Do not forget little kindnesses and do not remember small faults." After all, 1.2 billion can't be wrong.
  • Lastly, some of the best advice I can think of comes from Romans 12:9-11 in the Bible: "Hate what is wrong. Stand on the side of good. Love each other."
Best wishes to both Steve and Heather. May they have a long and happy marriage.
